Advancing policy research, sustainable development goals, and community empowerment through consultancy, capacity building, and interdisciplinary academic inquiry rooted in the Odisha context.
"Carrying out research to incorporate sustainable development goals and promote awareness among all stakeholders — building capacity, designing interventions, and creating a more equitable and just society."
— Centre Mission Statement
The Centre for Governance and Sustainable Societies (CGSS) at CUTM is dedicated to research, policy analysis, and community engagement in the domains of governance, social equity, and sustainable development. Established in August 2020, the centre brings together scholars from social sciences, development studies, law, and management to address complex societal challenges.
The centre focuses on capacity building through conferences, webinars, seminars, and field exposure visits. It conducts brainstorming sessions and workshops to design effective development interventions, and carries out consultancy projects and academic research to support institutions, government bodies, and communities.
"Building the ecosystem of knowledge and practice that connects research to real-world governance outcomes — from FPO development to educational policy and gender equity."
Examining local governance structures, institutional effectiveness, policy design, and public administration reforms. Research on Panchayati Raj institutions, urban local bodies, and democratic decentralisation.
Embedding the 17 UN SDGs into institutional and community practice. Research on clean energy access, zero hunger, poverty alleviation, and responsible consumption across Odisha's rural and tribal regions.
Research on gender-based violence, women's empowerment, domestic violence during crises (ICSSR-funded study during COVID-19), and equitable access to resources among marginalised communities.
Policy research on skill-integrated education, recognition of prior learning, higher education access, and sustainable entrepreneurship education — including major Norwegian-funded international projects.
