Blood Collection Assistant (BCA) course trains students to draw blood samples from patients with minimum pain and discomfort and prepare specimens for medical examination. Candidates will be trained with all the necessary procedures and techniques so that they can avoid contaminating the samples or infecting themselves and others.
The technicians are very important members of a healthcare team and their primary role is to collect and transport blood samples and specimens for tests. With the introduction of the latest diagnostic techniques, clinical laboratory technology, the demand has increased. In SoPAHS, they are trained with basic lab facilities with mannequins for injections, tube feeding, autoclave, CPR, catheter sterilisation station and a fully equipped pathology laboratory.
Eligibility Criteria-10th pass or higher qualifications.
Duration: 6 months.
Key learning areas
- A certified blood collection assistant draws blood from patients for medical testing, transfusions and blood bank donations.
- They apply tourniquets and disinfectants before administering venipuncture, micro techniques or other phlebotomy methods.
