Access to Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture and Aquaculture Knowledge for Local Farmers and Producers

Centurion University has taken the following initiatives with the collaboration of the Government of India:

Project Atal: Implemented in 18 districts – Balasore, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Puri, Jajpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Balangir, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj.

Centurion University’s Recognition of Prior Learning and Training: Implementation of Krishi Unnati Sahjogi and Krishi Udyog Sahayaks (KUS) initiatives has begun and is showing significant progress.

BOOST IN PRODUCTION (28%)

By providing the various agricultural inputs, the University has increased farmers crop like Maize (79%), mushroom (68%), mango (61%), floriculture (46%), organic farming (40%), solanaceous crops (23%), tuber crops (18%), cotton (17%), and citrus fruits (13%). These figures reflect significant double-digit increases in productivity and expertise post-training and inputs provided through various training programmes conducted by the University.

ENHANCED FOOD SECURITY (31%)

Centurion University provided farmers training on post-harvest management of fruits and vegetables and with the collaboration with Commodity and Food Storage Domain, farmers were trained to prepare various processed products of their agricultural produced. These training increases food security, such as in Mango (68%), mushroom (54%), maize (38%), pulses (38%), citrus fruits (21%), solanaceous crops (16%), and tubers (12%) have seen notable increases in production and consumption.

SURGE IN INCOMES (92%)

In recent years, the Centurion University-organized Recognition of Prior Learning and Training has definitely enhanced knowledge of multi-cropping, crop rotation, farming during non-cultivation periods, and the use of organic and vermicompost.

QUANTUM SHIFT IN PRODUCTION AND INCOME CATEGORIES FROM LOWER TO HIGHER

Farmers are closing in on the poverty line or are crossing over into lower income groups; a considerable shift in numbers into higher categories is another milestone achieved.
