National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)
National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Government of India, with a focus on Skills Development and Livelihood linked Education. Under the Innovation Agriculture project of NSDC, Centurion University is working in 9 districts of tribal-dominated South Odisha and 3 districts of North Coastal AP. Centurion University has trained 2725 farmers and 124 Community Resource Persons. Project Atal which envisions doubling of farmers’ income by training and certification of 1,00,000 small and marginal farmers in 200 blocks of Odisha has covered 70,000 farmers as of date. Centurion University and Last Mile Distribution Company (LMDC) provide end to end support to farmers for producing Rajendra Nagar rice variety -15048 controlled sugar variety of rice for doubling their income. o. Centurion University along with Gram Tarang has made an agreement with Society for Employment Generation and Enterprise Development in Andhra Pradesh( SEEDAP) to train 3000 farmers in Srikakulam, Vizianagram and Vishakapatnam. It has covered 900 farmers as of date.
SEED MONEY GRANT
The Centurion University Odisha in pursuance of fostering a research culture has determined to provide seed money to its faculty members every year. A humble beginning was made in 2020 by allocating an amount of Rs 10 lakhs for this purpose. This year, 2023, the University is pleased to enhance the amount to Rs 20 lakhs. A competitive process will be adopted to select proposals for the award of the same. The grant is meant to research policy-relevant areas, which will provide significant input in policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation. It applies to all disciplines taught at the University. It will also be provided for innovation and product development, as well as for developing proof of concept in order to apply for large grants. It will also be provided for publications under the affiliation of Centurion University, Odisha.
Women startups
a) Apparel Manufacturing
This Apparel Manufacturing Lab offers skill training courses from basic to advanced levels to prepare trainees for career advancement and better wages, upgrade the knowledge and skill levels of the existing workforce and facilitate the training of trainers employed at various training centres in the country.
Differently-abled youth are trained in this lab with the aim of making them competent, capable and confident in gaining employment or starting entrepreneurial ventures and thereby becoming accepted as an important and respected part of their community and society. It is worthwhile to mention 70 per cent of these differently-abled trainees are girls, out of which about 50-60% are from tribal communities. The entire training is provided in residential mode.
b) Experience Euphoric Plants, Ecstatic Gifts at Bhubaneswar campus
The Essence of Euphoria and Ecstasy is a new initiative of Centurion University, that promises to add a touch of magic to your celebrations. The University has always been at the forefront of innovation and sustainability and has been constantly working towards creating a greener and more sustainable future, both within and outside the campus. The Essence of Euphoria and Ecstasy is one of the many such initiatives. It was officially inaugurated by the President of Centurion University, Prof Mukti Kanta Mishra on 4th March 2023.
The idea of combining personalised gifting with eco-friendliness has led to the creation of a successful venture. The Essence of Euphoria and Ecstasy at Bhubaneswar campus is a shining example of how a simple idea can have a profound impact on the environment and society. The concept has fructified due to the untiring effort of the “Green Brigade” who have showered their sweat to make it happen.
c) Sangam Designs
Sangam Designs LLP is a startup incubated by Centurion University, Odisha in 2019. The aim of Sangam Designs is to reuse, recycle and upcycle waste fabric and create works of art that are handmade and eco-friendly. It also contributes to the Waste-to-Wealth Production Unit which was set up as the University’s commitment to zero waste and optimal use of resources.
The founder, Sanghamitra Patnaik, who designs and executes all the products, believes in an inclusive workspace and has engaged a master sartor and two women who are not only differently abled but have been in violent and traumatic relationships. The two young women consider working at Sangam Designs to be the most empowering experience in their lives. Sangam Designs is now an inspiration for other women entrepreneurs.
Sangam Designs specialises in hand-crafted home furnishing products in the form of duvets, quilts, cushion covers, curtains, bags and many other items. As the name suggests, Sangam is a confluence of weaving communities, artisans, craftspeople, and people who value the amount of work and dedication that goes into the production process.
E-Vehicle
The University aims to involve students actively in the manufacturing of EVs. To provide candidates with in-depth and detailed knowledge about electric vehicles and the subject associates. The Unit ardently trains the students to understand the workings of EVs and their recent trends. It involves them in designing the full-scale power train for EVs and makes them more employable. This unit bridges the gap between conventional methods of learning and application-based processes of learning for the students and empowers them with the skills to face future challenges.
Drone spray
Centurion University offers drone pilot certificates through our RPTO at Centurion University. Also, we are offering a skill course on drones. The students from all branches are taking up drone projects. We are offering spraying services to the farmers in and around our Paralakhemundi campus. Here we are also dealing with drone imaging through drones with the help of RGB, Multispectral and hyperspectral cameras for different applications.
