Centurion University has made significant strides in the University Impact Rankings for 2024, reflecting its commitment to sustainable development and impactful education. The University is now ranked between 601-800 globally, an impressive leap from last year’s position of 801-1000. Domestically, Centurion University has surged to the 18th position in India, up from the 150-200 bracket last year. These achievements underscore the University’s effective strategies and dedicated efforts toward sustainable development and community engagement.

Achievements in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Centurion University has excelled in several specific Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the University is ranked 3rd in India. In SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), it holds the 2nd position in India. These rankings highlight the institution’s impactful initiatives and commitment to these crucial areas. However, Centurion University is not resting on its laurels. The institution aims to become the top University in India and to be recognised among the top 50 universities worldwide. This ambitious goal is a testament to the University’s dedication to excellence and its strategic focus on impactful education and research.

Participation in the Global Sustainable Development Congress 2024

Representatives from Centurion University, Dr. Satyasis Mishra and Ms. Afreen Firdaus, attended the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) 2024, held from June 10th to June 13th. The congress provided a platform for learning, networking, and collaboration, offering valuable insights to drive the University’s future initiatives.

Day 1: Clean Energy and Sustainable Practices

On the first day, discussions centred around clean energy and sustainable practices, including Bangkok’s clean energy scenario aiming for zero CO2 emissions and promoting a green environment. The importance of reducing paper usage through initiatives like paperless exams was emphasised, with one example saving 1929 trees. The integration between SDGs and citation metrics was highlighted, alongside engagement with universities, NGOs, and global partners. Success stories of specific villages and districts benefiting from SDG initiatives by Centurion University, including education, health services, and open libraries, were also shared.

Day 2: Focus on SDGs 1, 2, and 7

The second day focused on SDGs 1, 2, and 7, with an emphasis on increasing citations related to SDGs to improve rankings. Discussions with IEFRP and Elsevier for better citation analysis and SciVal insights were particularly insightful. Potential MoUs with AL-QUADS University, Jerusalem, for research and student exchange programs were explored, and discussions with THE and WUR representatives on preparing SDG policy documents were held.

Day 3: Female Faculty Participation and AI in Education

The third day highlighted the importance of senior female faculty members’ participation in SDGs and mentoring roles. The use of Dimensions AI for SDG-related publication analysis was discussed, and the focus was placed on policy documents, evidence for SDG-17, research collaboration with foreign universities, and sustainable practices documentation. Youth participation in sustainable community projects and capacity building was encouraged alongside educational reforms emphasising critical thinking, ethics, governance, and AI integration.

Day 4: Best Practices and Data Points on SDGs

The final day of the congress saw THE proposing the use of AI to identify and implement SDG best practices. Sessions on data points related to SDGs and suggestions for improvement from Prof. Jen provided valuable insights. Emphasis was placed on SDGs 1, 2, 3, 14, and 15 for further enhancement.

Key takeaways include strengthening policy documentation, improving evidence for SDG initiatives, fostering interdisciplinary and international research collaborations, promoting women empowerment, implementing zero plastic policies, promoting climate change awareness, integrating sustainable practices into University operations, encouraging youth participation in sustainable community projects, and leveraging AI for report preparation, SDG analysis, and educational reforms.
