Dr Sambid Swain brings a wealth of academic experience, leadership, and vision to the institution. About Us
The School of Fisheries, Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM), Paralakhemundi, Odisha, was established in 2017 with the vision of creating skilled professionals and entrepreneurs in the field of fisheries and aquaculture. It is the first private institution in Odisha to offer a professional Bachelor of Fisheries Science (Hons.)/ (B.F.Sc. (Hons.) programme, recently recognized and accredited by ICAR (Vide No: F.No.1/27/2023-EQR/Edu./Accre. Dated 27.02.2024, along with postgraduate opportunities through the Master in Fisheries Science (M.F.Sc.) programme.
The school follows the ICAR-recommended curriculum, ensuring students receive nationally standardized education with a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical experience. The eight-semester B.F.Sc. programme includes comprehensive coursework, Experiential Learning (ELP), and In-plant Training, preparing students to meet industry, research, and entrepreneurship challenges.
To support hands-on learning, the school is equipped with modern facilities including numerous culture ponds (Aquaculture Research Farm, Biofloc units, Ornamental fish culture systems, Aquaponics, Automated recirculatory aquaculture systems (RAS), Chinese Circular hatchery, feed mill, fish processing and value addition unit and specialized laboratories. In addition, the fish museum, library, and dedicated hostels provide a holistic academic environment.
Beyond academics, the School of Fisheries actively engages with local communities through farmer training programs, Kisan Melas, technology demonstrations, and awareness campaigns promoting sustainable and eco-friendly aquaculture practices. The faculty and students contribute to projects in biodiversity conservation, invasive species management, and innovative aquaculture technologies that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Life Below Water (SDG 14).
