Centurion University Empowering Odisha’s Agriculture Landscape Sustainably with APICOL

In a significant stride towards bolstering Odisha’s agricultural sector, Centurion University of Technology and Management has proudly announced its long-term partnership with APICOL (Agricultural Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited), a Government of Odisha undertaking under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment. This collaboration not only aims to provide valuable assistance to agricultural enterprises in the state of Odisha but also aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), offering a ray of hope and prosperity to countless farmers and aspiring agri-entrepreneurs.

Empowering Odisha’s Agri Entrepreneurs: A Sustainable Vision

At the heart of this partnership lies the commitment to nurturing the next generation of agri-entrepreneurs. Under the umbrella of the Agri Entrepreneurship Promotion Scheme (AEPS) of APICOL, Centurion University will play a pivotal role in training individuals from 12 different districts in Odisha. The training programs will encompass various job roles crucial to the agricultural sector, including Nursery Management, Fishery, Goatery, and Poultry management, while actively contributing to sustainable development goals.

By focusing on skill development, sustainable agricultural practices, and entrepreneurship, this partnership directly addresses multiple SDGs. It seeks to reduce poverty (SDG 1) by equipping individuals with the skills and knowledge to become successful agri-entrepreneurs. The emphasis on innovation in agricultural practices also aligns with SDG 9, promoting industry, innovation, and infrastructure development.

Furthermore, the partnership strives to achieve zero hunger (SDG 2) by improving agricultural productivity, enhancing food security, and reducing hunger in the state. By revitalizing rural economies and communities, it indirectly supports sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11).

Sustainability is a common thread throughout the training programs, aligning with SDG 13 (Climate Action). Sustainable agriculture practices are vital in combating climate change, and the partnership emphasizes these practices to minimize the environmental footprint of farming.

The Vision for the Future: A Sustainable and Prosperous Odisha

This partnership between Centurion University and APICOL epitomizes collaboration for progress, embodying the spirit of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By joining forces, they are working towards shared goals and addressing pressing issues related to agriculture and rural development, both at the local and global levels.

As these agri-entrepreneurs graduate from their training programs and step into the field, they hold the promise of transforming Odisha’s agricultural landscape sustainably. Their endeavours contribute not only to the state’s overall growth and prosperity but also to the global pursuit of a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for all. Together, they are sowing the seeds of a brighter, more sustainable future for Odisha’s agriculture, subtly weaving the principles of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals into their endeavours.
