Sustainable Development Goal-10

Centurion University’s Commitment to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities

Global inequality poses challenges to social, economic, and environmental sustainability. Disparities in income, education, gender, and access to opportunities hinder growth and social cohesion. Centurion University is dedicated to bridging these gaps, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 10 (SDG 10): Reduced Inequalities, by addressing exclusion and empowering underserved communities through inclusive education, skill-building, and impactful community engagement.

Mission and Vision: A Future Without Inequality

Centurion University’s vision—”a globally accredited human resource center of excellence catalyzing sustainable livelihoods in less developed markets”—aligns seamlessly with SDG 10. By delivering quality education, globally recognized employability training, and promoting entrepreneurship, we aim to reduce social and economic inequalities in the communities we serve.

Key Initiatives to Tackle Inequality

  • Community Upliftment in Underserved Regions
Centurion University’s campuses in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, including areas like Paralakhemundi, Rayagada, and Bolangir, provide access to high-quality education and skill development in socio-economically disadvantaged regions. By focusing on these areas, the university contributes to inclusive growth and uplifts local communities.
  • Diversity and Inclusion in Academics
Centurion University embraces diversity across gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic backgrounds. In 2023, we hosted students from 36 Indian towns and cities and supported students from low-income backgrounds. We are committed to inclusivity, offering scholarships and financial assistance, particularly for first-generation college students, ensuring access to education for all.
  • Capability Enhancement Programs
Centurion provides programs like IAS coaching, GATE preparation, and other courses designed to equip students from diverse backgrounds with necessary skills. These programs help close knowledge gaps and provide equal opportunities for success in competitive exams and professional fields.
  • Entrepreneurship and Empowerment for Marginalized Students
Through entrepreneurial training and hands-on projects, Centurion encourages students from underrepresented communities to develop innovative solutions and businesses. These efforts foster economic independence and contribute to income equality, as students gain the skills to become entrepreneurs.
  • Earn While You Learn Initiative
This program offers students from low-income backgrounds opportunities to work on paid internships, on-campus jobs, and live industry projects. Students gain practical experience and reduce financial burdens, enabling them to focus on their education and professional development.

Social Impact and Community Outreach

Centurion University actively engages with local communities through workshops, training sessions, and skill-building programs to reduce inequalities. Our “Adopt-a-Village” initiative helps local farmers adopt sustainable agricultural practices, enhancing livelihoods and reducing rural poverty. By partnering with local and international organizations, we strengthen our impact and address inequalities at the grassroots level.

Embracing the CARES Framework for Lasting Impact

Using the CARES framework—Community Engagement, Academic Excellence, Research, Entrepreneurship, and Social Impact—Centurion University creates a socially inclusive environment. This holistic approach supports the university’s mission to foster equality, align with SDG 10, and encourage diversity on campus and beyond.

Policies and Supportive Infrastructure

Centurion University upholds equality and inclusivity through a comprehensive set of policies:

  • Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy
  • Non-Discriminatory Admission and Hiring Practices
  • Scholarship Programs for Economically Disadvantaged Students
  • Disability Accommodation and Support Programs
  • Grievance Redressal Committees for discrimination-related issues

These policies ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where all individuals are respected and valued.

Impactful Projects and Initiatives

  1. Scholarships and Financial Assistance
Centurion University provides scholarships and financial aid for students from marginalized communities, with over 50% of students benefiting from merit-based scholarships. This ensures that talented students from underrepresented groups can access high-quality education.
  2. Support for Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan)
Our campus is accessible, featuring ramps, elevators, and specially designed classrooms. We offer tailored employment support and provide training in sign language, fostering full integration for students with disabilities.
  3. Women’s Empowerment
Centurion champions gender equality across academia and administration, with women constituting 34% of the staff. Women leaders occupy key roles, including the Vice-Chancellor and several Deans. Gender sensitization workshops and leadership programs further support women’s advancement.

Ongoing Commitment to SDG 10

As Centurion University expands its programs and outreach, we remain steadfast in our commitment to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. Through inclusive education, empowering programs, and extensive community engagement, we will continue to promote equal opportunities and reduce disparities in society.
