Smoke-free Campus

Smoke-free Campus

Centurion University of Technology and Management, Odisha, designates all its premises as environments that strictly prohibit smoking, drug use, and alcohol consumption. This commitment is in compliance with the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COPTA) of 2003, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 (amended in 2014), the Odisha Excise Act of 2008 (since alcohol regulation is a state matter), and Article 21 of the Constitution of India, which protects the right to life and personal liberty. These legal frameworks compel us to promote a campus that is completely smoke-free, drug-free, and alcohol-free, prioritizing the health and well-being of all individuals. Consequently, our University proudly upholds these principles by being officially recognized as a smoke-free, drug-free, and alcohol-free institution.

Sharing Sports Facility with the Local Community

The Sports Department at Centurion University arranges diverse sports programs such as cricket, football, volleyball, Kabaddi, and fitness competitions in collaboration with local schools and communities. The university acknowledges the vital role of sports in enhancing physical and mental well-being and in empowering individuals and communities. Consequently, The University actively promotes student and staff engagement in regular sports and physical activities to offer social and health advantages. These activities not only directly improve physical fitness but also cultivate healthy lifestyle choices in youth, aiding them in staying active and combating non-communicable diseases.

Sexual Reproductive and Mental Healthcare Services

SDG 3 Good Health and Wellbeing

Sexual Reproductive and Mental Healthcare Services

The University, with its diverse programs, establishes a minimum entry age requirement of 17 years. This age signifies a stage in a student’s life where they have entered adulthood and may engage in sexual activities. This period can be a vulnerable time when they require education on safe sexual practices and how to protect themselves from Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).

The University places a strong emphasis on providing high-quality sexual health education to empower adolescents with the essential knowledge and crucial skills necessary to reduce risky sexual behaviors. Regular sessions are conducted to educate students on maintaining their sexual health, preventing STDs, unintended pregnancies, and the transmission of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Mental health support is essential throughout one’s life, but the adolescent years are a particularly vulnerable period when young individuals may be susceptible to self-harm or causing harm to others. This is why the University has established a robust mentor-mentee relationship, where a faculty mentor actively engages with students and monitors their overall well-being. To prioritize and maintain good mental health, the University has taken the initiative of employing a dedicated faculty of Yoga experts. They actively engage with both students and staff members, encouraging and guiding them in the practice of yoga, which serves as a beneficial means of enhancing mental well-being and overall health.

The Dean of Students Welfare plays a pivotal role in coordinating awareness campaigns related to sexual, reproductive, and mental health. Additionally, the Dean guides students towards counseling services when such support is required. To access these services, both students and mentors (who may recommend students in need of counseling) are encouraged to arrange appointments with the Dean of Student Welfare via email at [email protected].

The Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) is an institution that has a strong conviction in the significance of all-around student development. As a consequence of this, the University is making consistent efforts to direct the enthusiasm of its students toward the resolution of real-world problems that have an impact on the society as a whole. Every individual is driven by a profound sense of responsibility toward the prosperity of the wider society in which they live and work. Every year, an array of initiatives is launched as outreach programs to support the well-being of the community. The students work in groups with their faculty mentors on projects that have the objective of addressing a problem that exists in the community and coming up with innovative technical solutions to the issue. The promotion of providing health care facilities to the residents of the community, improved nutritional and agricultural support, entrepreneurial outreach for healthy and sustainable living, etc. are all examples of some of the themes that have been taken up and remedied in alignment with SDG 3.
