Enrolment of Students from the Lowest 20% of the Household Income Support
Centurion University targets to admit students from the lowest 20% of household income brackets. The university complies with the Government of India’s Reservation Laws, to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes in case of direct recruitment on an all-India basis by open competition is given at the rate of 15%, 7.5% and 27%, respectively. As the University is located across regional and rural areas of India, the target setting is a critical step toward promoting inclusivity and socioeconomic diversity in higher education. Centurion University does the following to accomplish this:
Financial Aid and Scholarships: The University has developed a robust financial aid system by itself and has also linked with various Government and Non-Government organisations for scholarships and grants to meet the specific needs of economically disadvantaged students.
Community Engagement: Partnering with community organisations to reach potential students in low-income areas. Facilities like smart classrooms with embedded technical software and audio-video support manufacturing facilities, such as 5-axis CNC, wood engineering lab, and apparel, are provided.
Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS)
From 20th November 2023 to 19th December 2023, students from TMREIS Hyderabad participated in a month-long internship on ‘Agricultural Crop Production’ at Centurion University, Paralakhemundi campus. The primary objectives of the internship were to equip the students with knowledge and skills for sustainable agricultural crop production and to develop their entrepreneurial capabilities. To achieve these goals, six broad topics were covered: Soil & Water Management, Agricultural Crop Production, Farm Management, Agricultural Extension, Management of Field & Commercial Crops, and Seed Production and Processing. Each topic was handled by two Assistant Professors to ensure comprehensive hands-on training. Emphasis was placed on practical sessions over theoretical ones to align with the internship’s objectives. A total of 15 male students participated, with careful attention given to their accommodation and food, ensuring they stayed in one hostel and were provided with South Indian cuisine. Telugu-speaking faculty members were assigned to each topic, which facilitated effective communication and understanding.
National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC)
The University has done the baseline assessment of more than 200+ candidates from the Dantewada area in the Bastar district of Bihar to get 60 candidates. The following activities were performed during the mobilisation process with complete support from NMDC officials:
a) Identifying potential candidates for the program through one-to-one counselling of the candidates, their parents, family & influencers by the University mobilisers in the Bastar district.
b) Skill mapping was done as per the qualification, baseline assessment, interest & IQ level of the candidates.
c) Baseline assessment was done as per the University entry level process and skill mapping
d) Need identification was done for the required candidates with financially weaker section rural poor
e) Full information about the program is provided by the University to all candidates and NMDC officials who facilitate these mobilisation camps.
Technology Access: Ensuring students have access to necessary technology, such as laptops and internet connections. Smart classrooms with embedded technical software, with audio-video support manufacturing facilities- 5-axis CNC, wood engineering lab, apparel manufacturing lab, additive manufacturing (3D printing); industry- partnerships with Dassault, AWS, Unity, EDA tools, Schneider Electric, MATLAB. The University’s social entrepreneurship outreach GTTech and GTFoods provide a platform for internships and industry-integrated learning.
Online Courses: Offering online courses and degree programs can provide flexibility for students who need to work or have other commitments.
Application Fee Waivers: The University charges no tuition fee for low-income students. This encourages them to apply and explore their educational options.
Support Services: The University offers comprehensive support services such as tutoring, counselling, and mentorship programs to help students from diverse backgrounds succeed academically and personally. The Uni also follows a multiple entry, multiple exit pathway enabling students to meet diverse needs as per NEP 2020. the uni allows for deferment towards completion depending on the duration of the programme
