Centurion University’s Mentoring Program: Supporting Female Students’ Development

Centurion University’s Mentoring Program: Supporting Female Students’ Development

At Centurion University, we actively track the graduation rates of both female and male students, ensuring equal opportunities for academic success. To further support this, our mentoring schemes are specifically designed to close any gaps that may exist, particularly for female students. In line with the University Grants Commission’s directive in 2023, Centurion University established its first Student Mentoring and Counseling Policy, creating a platform where students can engage with faculty and share academic and personal challenges. This initiative ensures personalized guidance to foster academic success and holistic development for all students.

The University involves faculty members who serve as mentors, guides, and, in some cases, local guardians, to support students’ intellectual and emotional needs. To date, we have recruited 50 student mentors who are committed to enhancing the overall well-being and academic progress of students, ensuring that mentoring relationships are meaningful and effective.

Number of female graduates: STEM 638
Number of female graduates: Medicine 182
Number of female graduates: Arts & Humanities / Social Sciences 51

The Centurion Mentoring policy aims to foster the holistic development of both faculty and students through mutually inclusive social interaction. This policy aims to outline the scope of the mentoring services provided to all students at Centurion University of Technology and Management. Student mentoring and Counselling policy is aimed to provide guidance, support and/or any intervention required to address student well-being and/or academic progress. Centurion University in adhering to the guidelines of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ensures that all faculty members engage in mentoring students to enhance teaching-learning skills and the overall quality of higher education.

The robust mentoring and counselling policy of the university enables students to address absenteeism, improvement plans along with helping students to discuss and design career specific action plans for professional growth. The process flow of mentoring is outlined below.

The mentoring program pairs students with mentors based on shared interests and goals. Mentors receive training, and regular assessments ensure effectiveness. To support this, a 1-hour weekly mentoring session is integrated into the timetable, featuring group discussions and one-on-one meetings. The program maintains a 1:10-15 mentor-mentee ratio and provides ongoing mentor training.

Integrating dedicated mentoring time into our school timetable demonstrates our commitment to supporting students’ overall development. This structured approach ensures consistent, meaningful mentoring relationships, empowering students to reach their full potential.

In 2023, Centurion University witnessed 100% participation of female students in our mentoring system and sessions.

The schedule of the Mentoring Session in the Time Table is attached below.

Mentoring Female Students

The University is designing a special accelerated learning program for female advanced learners through advanced courses, workshops, or online resources to excel in their fields. They will be paired with experienced female professionals or academics for their advancement in professional careers and scholarship/financial support or recognition for outstanding academic achievements can be extended to the female academic achievers.
