Monitoring the Health of Aquatic Ecosystems Through Histopathology

Monitoring the Health of Aquatic Ecosystems Through Histopathology

The School of Fisheries at Centurion University, Paralakhemundi  is committed to monitoring the health of aquatic ecosystems through hands-on training in fish health management, focusing on histopathology as a critical assessment tool. Each year, final-year students participate in this program, allowing nearly four students from each batch to gain practical experience in fish health management via histological techniques.

Histopathology involves the microscopic examination of fish tissues to identify diseases, assess tissue damage, and address other health issues. This training equips students with essential skills for early detection of various diseases, thereby enhancing fish health management practices. By standardizing proper care methods and employing histopathological analysis, students contribute to monitoring the effects of environmental stressors on aquatic life and evaluating the overall health of fish populations. This proactive approach not only supports the health of fish but also plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of the aquatic ecosystems on campus and at the Aquaculture Research Farm (ARF).
