Promoting Biodiversity Through Sustainable Aquaculture Practices
On October 10, 2023, Centurion University’s School of Fisheries conducted a hands-on program focused on the construction and installation of Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS), aimed at enhancing ecosystem sustainability and biodiversity. Led by Assistant Professors and supported by 40 students, this initiative took place at the Paralakhemundi campus in Odisha.
The program was designed to educate fish farmers, aquaculture entrepreneurs, and environmental enthusiasts about RAS, a sustainable and efficient method for fish farming. By minimizing water usage and reducing the environmental impact of aquaculture practices, RAS is particularly beneficial in areas with limited water resources and space. Participants gained practical knowledge in constructing and installing these systems, enabling them to implement eco-friendly fish farming techniques that contribute to the maintenance and extension of aquatic ecosystems and their biodiversity, particularly in threatened environments.
Butterfly, Bees, and Cactus Garden
The Butterfly, Bees, and Cactus Garden is a vibrant terrestrial ecosystem created by the University to systematically support local biodiversity and natural pollination. This garden serves as a dedicated habitat for butterflies and bees, which are essential pollinators sustaining plant life and ecosystems. Designed to encourage the breeding and survival of these pollinators, the garden also aims to raise awareness about their critical role in environmental sustainability and their importance to the health of our planet.
